New PECS contract guide website launched

The new Prisoner Escort and Custody Service contract guide has been launched today.
The new Prisoner Escort and Custody Services (PECS) contract user guide has been launched to make it easier for PECS service users to understand:
- the services they can expect to be delivered
- their role in using the contract effectively and efficiently
About the Prisoner Escort and Custody Service
PECS provides the safe and secure transport of prisoners, including: adults; children and young people to and from Police Stations; Courts; Prisons; Secure Training Centres (STCs); and Secure Children’s Schools (SCHs)
About the guide
The contract user guide has been designed as an aid to stakeholders in key parts of the CJS to understand their own roles and responsibilities within processes.
When working at its best PECS provides an essential logistics service to the wider criminal justice service across England and Wales.
It ensures the right person is in the right place at the right time, and transports vulnerable and challenging individuals in a safe, decent, secure and timely manner.
Tim Coates, Head of the Prisoner Escort and Custody Service said:
“PECS may well be the first experience an individual has of custody and it will shape their expectations for, and behaviour during, the rest of their time in the CJS.
This guide will help users with the successful delivery of this vital service.”
The guide has been split in to specific sections, covering each of the main users of the service
- the courts
- prisons
- police
- those responsible for management of young people.
However users of the guide are encouraged to look at all parts of the guide to better understand the end-to-end process and how everyone has a responsibility for ensuring good quality outcomes.
