Children’s services user guide
This section provides users with contractual information about how children and young people in the criminal justice system are managed and supported under the PECS contract.
Care and welfare of children
Children are generally supported by dedicated teams using non-cellular vehicles. This section outlines how that support is delivered when travelling and at court.
Placements and transfers
This section outlines how PECS, in conjunction with our suppliers, work with the Youth Custody Service to place and transfer children.
Children’s health
Healthcare provision is accessible to children at court should it be necessary. In the unlikely event a child in our custody requires treatment in hospital, our approach to managing this is outlined within this section.
Safeguarding and child protection
Our suppliers have key responsibilities to highlight concerns and risks associated with children, and communicate them to relevant stakeholders and authorities. Information can also be obtained on the approach our suppliers take when using body worn video cameras.
Children at court
This section details some of the ways in which a child’s anxiety about the court process may be reduced.
Use of force and restraints
Force is only used on a child as a last resort, and this section explains how PECS and our suppliers adhere to the Youth Custody Service’s policy.
